Welcome to the new Cuonlinenow Email Server. We know its been a long time in coming, (and we thank you for your patience) but this new server should really help cut down the amount of spam being delivered to your accounts, plus allow you, the user, more control on what is considered spam and what is not. First, we would like to explain the function of the new email server in regards to spam. Then we.ll give a few instructions on how to use the web page for webmail and configure your spam filter settings. Also, please keep one thing in mind in regards to Spam Filtering. There is no 100% way to block all spam. So, you can greatly decrease the amount of spam that makes its way to your inbox, but some will always get through. Spammers are very clever at trying new ways to get their messages into your inbox, and with this new server, we.ll do our best to keep up with them to limit the amount coming in. HOW EMAILS ARE PROCESSED AND POSSIBLY MARKED AS SPAM Each email is first scanned for viruses. If the email is determined to be infected, it is immediately deleted. Nothing further is done to the email since it is no longer on our system. Next, the email is put through a series of anti-spam tests. Each one that it fails assigns a score. At the end of the tests, each assigned score is added up to give a total score, or weight, against the email. The server then applies the following logic to that weight: · A weight of 0 to 4.99 nothing happens. Email is forwarded on to user as normal. · A weight of 5 to 7.99 has the subject re-written to **POSSIBLE SPAM** and then sent on to the user. · A weight of 8 or higher and the email are rejected. The scores above are the Default scores and settings for re-written subject line. This means that if you adjust your spam score in the spam settings (detailed later in this document), then use that score in this chart. The only score that is not adjustable is the weight of 8, which is the reject level. Please see the section on Spam Filter Settings. **Please Note: The only way an email is deleted at the server is if it is infected with a virus. If a message is determined to be spam, then the message is REJECTED which means it is returned to the sending email server as a bounce. No email that is scored as spam is stored on the server. LOGGING INTO WEBMAIL Webmail is the ability to read your emails on a web page, instead of using outlook express or another email client. It is also a useful alternative when traveling without a computer, so you can see the emails that await you on the server. A very good, well-known example of webmail is the Hotmail.com website. To log into the new webmail page, copy or type the appropriate address into your web browser: http://webmail.cuonlinenow.com Once the page loads, you.ll see a field called Name and a field called Password. In the Name field, type in your FULL EMAIL ADDRESS. In the Password field, type in your password. Click the Login button. OVERVIEW OF THE MAIN PAGE FOR WEBMAIL Once you are logged in, you are taken directly into the contents of your Inbox. For the most part, this page is self-explanatory. From here, you can create new messages (compose), read emails in your inbox (click on the appropriate message if there are any), or click any of the links at the top of the page. Refer to the HELP link at the top of the page for further explanation of this page. PERSONAL INFORMATION If you plan to use the webmail, It is a good idea to go into the Personal Information section under OPTIONS and fill in the relevant information. Also, if you enter in a signature here, go into the Display Preferences from the main Options page and look for the .Prepend Signature before Reply/Forward Text. option. This option will place the signature either before the quoted text of the original message, or after. The default setting is no, which places the signature after, and can make your signature hard to find. CUSTOMIZE THE WEBMAIL LOOK You can alter the color, font, and number of messages to be displayed. Click on the OPTIONS link at the top of the page. Next, click on DISPLAY PREFERENCES.
Once your choices have been made for any or all of the options above, click the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page. You.ll be taken back to the main Options page. Near the top of the page, you.ll see a REFRESH PAGE link. Click on that to load your new settings. CREATION OF NEW FOLDERS If you want to add new folders (or remove folders you have previously added), then click on FOLDERS link at the top of the page. This page is pretty self-explanatory. Refer to the HELP link at the top of the page for further explanations of functions. You can further customize the folders by clicking on OPTIONS and then FOLDER PREFERENCES. SPAM FILTERING SETTINGS This section details the customizing of your spam filter settings. Regardless if you use outlook express, webmail, or another email client, this is the only place to make these adjustments. The HELP link at the top of the page does not include documentation for this page. Please refer to this document for questions, or call our technical support. To get to the settings, click on OPTIONS, then click on SPAM FILTERS. Most of this page has explanations on it already. If you have any questions regarding the top two-thirds of the page, please contact support. The whitelist/blacklist section allows for email to be automatically allowed through the spam filtering process, or to be automatically marked as spam. Simply enter in an email address and choose whitelist, or blacklist from and the appropriate action for that address will happen. The bottom third of the page is where the scoring and augmenting of an email is configured. Please note the following:
The Rewrite Subject default setting does not display IF you have not changed it to something else. Spam ScoreThe Spam Score setting is the score at which SpamAssassin marks a message as spam. Remember, all messages with a score of 8 or higher is automatically rejected by the server. So, at the default setting of 5, any message with a score of 0 to 4.99 is not spam, but with a score of 5 to 7.99, the message is considered spam, the subject gets re-written, and then forwarded to you for your judgment. The only score that won.t work here is the .don.t filter. option. This is because the server is setup to automatically reject all messages above a score of 8 due to the sheer amount of spam coming in. Rewrite Subject You can enter in anything you want here. If you do not wish the subject to be re-written, simply leave the field blank. Acceptable Languages Click on any language you wish to receive an email in. All others will automatically be rejected. Use SpamNet SpamNet is a collection of emails that are known to be spam. This helps a little, but since Spammers are always changing their ways and email appearances, messages usually don.t match. But hey.every little bit helps. OUTLOOK SETTINGS If you use Outlook, or Outlook Express, then you may wish to create some message rules to filter messages that come in with a modified subject.
