Configuring Windows 2000 Pro Dial-Up Networking

New Setups: Connection Wizard | Configuring Existing Connections | Modem Configuration

Summary: Windows 2000 (Win2k) combines its dial-up settings and network settings into one big component. It is fairly easy to configure but it is quite different from Windows NT and Windows 9X. The good news is that Internet Explorer, Outlook Express and Netscape configurations are unchanged. This tutorial includes all of the necessary screen shots (and a few optional screen shots) so that you can configure Win2k to connect to the internet through a modem.

Warning: We've received several reports that the Win2K Upgrade CDs create networking problems. We have no solution for bugs in the upgrade software. Microsoft will have to fix that. Brand new installations of Win2K do not appear to be having any of these problems.

Intro: Getting to the Network & Dial-Up Connection Settings

Windows 2000 combines the old network section of the Win9X control panel with the dial-up settings. You can access them in one of three ways. First, you can click Start -> Settings -> Network & Dial-Up Connections as pictured above.
